Ever gotten fed up of the lag between switching and opening programs on your PC? It’s nagging, RIGHT?  And to sum up the troubles, you’ve bumped into a juicy game to play on your 2GB RAM laptop or desktop, you’re excited that it installs with no error, well, that’s good so far and you’re highly optimistic that gameplay will be as smooth as butter. But it just doesn’t make it up to you if at all the game doesn’t crash.

This is a scenario that many users especially owners of 2 – 4GB RAM PC variants live with each day working with their machines. Knowing or unknowing what the the cause of this dreadful scenario might be is obviously a low-key warning of low or depleted RAM

Perhaps at this point you’re considering filling the expansion slots with more RAM capacities or replacing an entire RAM chip with a bigger storage version. I’d be glad to inform you that you can give your old PC a free or rather inexpensive power boost. The remedy

Microsoft has been so generous to make this possible by using a built- in tool called ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost is a disk caching software component that was developed by Microsoft in windows vista, windows 7 and later. It literally uses the NAND storage of a flash drive or SD card as a RAM cache. What you’ll need

• PC with 4-2GB RAM and below
• USB drive/ SD card /memory card (2,4 GB above)
• Windows vista,7 and above OS

Steps to follow

1. Insert the USB flash drive

For my case, GSP1RM_X64(H:) is the removable disk 8 Gigabytes in total. You should always endeavor to use a disk that’s at least the same size as the RAM installed in your PC if you are to witness beneficial results. The PC am using for example is 2 Gigabytes of RAM so Ready Boost can work with anything above 2 Gigabytes.

2. Right click on the USB flash drive, select properties, select the Ready Boost tab from properties

Select Use this device option, enter a value in the entry box below for the storage to be allocated to ReadyBoost.

 The conventional digital storage values are used for accurate estimations. i.e.

1GB = 1024MB

1MB = 1024KB

So, if you need to assign 4GB to ReadyBoost, that’ll be 4 * 1024MB = 4GB

Click ‘APPLY’ and ‘OK’

This is surely an inexpensive way to boost up your PC’s RAM in only two easy steps. On the other hand, one shouldn’t be convinced that this is the best alternative to RAM chips as removable media is traditionally slower than conventional RAM chips.

That being said, it seemingly shows a noticeable improvement during gameplay but this will be jazz for another edition. As for now, you can freely take your boosted PC for some good data crunching, because that’s what it does best…
